MachineTools.com News Update - Issue 16
=======================================================

www.machinetools.com -- The Machine Tool Marketplace

U.S. manufacturers remain optimistic about prospects for
the next three months. In May, manufacturers saw inflationary
pressures easing as expectations for prices and costs showed
the most significant declines, according to the latest Dun &
Bradstreet manufacturing survey. Expectations for increased
production and new orders also remained strong.

This week's highlighted conversations include:

"I keep hearing about machines made in China as being junk... What
I have found is that the machine looks like junk overall; however,
the parts that need to be ground to make it a precision machine are
well done. I have been using the machine for over a year making
launcher parts and prototypes for the Forest Service. For $1,800.00
I am very happy with the performance of the lathe... Again, it looks
like junk but works well for me."

"Does anyone know of any good machine shops in Oklahoma? I am
currently looking to switch jobs. They are not trying to bring in any
new work where I work and I do not want to get wrapped up in the
high production monotony. If you all know of any, the help would
be greatly appreciated."

"I used to be a tool and die maker with Koenig Iron Works before
I went into [high school Industrial Education] teaching. I became
a journeyman tool maker with that company and while I was there
trained two other people to the art of machining. It was a great
job and a wonderful feeling when you can give back to the trade
like that. So I must admit I too feel that apprenticeship is the
way to go. I do wish more companies had it available to people,
and if they do they should make it better known."
